Getting started

Getting started: your first scheme in 10 minutes

Updated 13 Oct 2026

Welcome to CommunityDesk. This guide takes you from a brand-new account to a scheme that’s ready to raise levies. You don’t need to do it all in one sitting: CommunityDesk remembers what’s still outstanding.

1. Register your organization

On the sign-in page, choose I don’t have an account yet — register an organization. Give your organization’s name, your first scheme’s name and type, and your own name. Confirm your email with the link we send you, and you’ll land straight in as the scheme’s first trustee.

There’s no password. Everyone (the management team, trustees, owners and residents) signs in with a one-time link sent to their email.

2. Follow the to-dos on your dashboard

Your Dashboard lists what still needs doing for this scheme, under the welcome card and in Needs attention. Each item opens the screen that does it, and disappears once it’s done:

  • Add the scheme’s address: it appears on levy statements and notices.
  • Add the units and owners: import your unit schedule from a spreadsheet (see Importing units and owners).
  • Set up how levies are charged: under Settings → Levies.
  • Approve this year’s budget: each unit’s levy is worked out from it.
  • Add the scheme’s bank account: to import bank statements and match owner payments.
  • Record the current trustees: they approve budgets and quotes.
  • Welcome everyone: send owners and residents an email telling them how to sign in.

Tenants and opening balances are optional, so you won’t be nagged about them.

3. Raise your first levies

Once the budget is approved and the levy settings are saved, go to Finance → Levies and choose Raise Levies for the month. See Raising monthly levies.

Managing more than one scheme? Each scheme has its own units, budget and levies, and you can switch between them at any time.
